Classic Chicken Shawarma Pita Pocket

All the flavour of slow-roasted chicken shawarma, ready in less than 30 minutes!


1 lb Mina Halal® chicken shawarma

1 tbsp (15 mL) olive oil

6 whole wheat pita pockets

2 cups (500 mL) shredded romaine lettuce

1 large tomato, diced

1 cup (250 mL) cucumber, diced

1 cup (250 mL) red onion, sliced thin

1 cup (250 mL) prepared hummus

1 cup (250 mL) pickled Indian vegetables

2 cups (500 mL) thick Greek style yogurt

Juice of a lime

½ cup (125 mL) cilantro, chopped




HEAT oil in a large skillet over medium high heat.

COOK chicken 6 to 7 minutes or until browned and cooked through or an internal temperature of 165 degrees is reached.

SET aside.

ASSEMBLE pitas by dividing lettuce, tomato, cucumber, onion and chicken into pita pockets.

IN a small bowl combine yogurt, lime juice, cilantro and salt and pepper.

DRIZZLE into each pita pocket.

SERVE with hummus, pickled vegetables for garnish.

Tip: Serve with spicy para Indian fried snacking chips on the side.
