Chicken Shawarma Grilled Cheese with Spicy Indian Ketchup

Grilled cheese will never be the same! Wow your family with this uniquely delicious ooey gooey chicken shawarma sandwich!


1 pkg Mina Chicken Shawarma

1 tbsp (15 mL) olive oil

8 slices rye bread

½ cup (125 mL) ghee, softened

1 yellow pepper, sliced

1 orange pepper, sliced

1 small red onion, sliced

2 cups (500 mL) mozzarella, shredded

2 cups (500 mL) cheddar, shredded

1 cup (250 mL) prepared spicy indian ketchup




HEAT 2 tbsp of the ghee in a large skillet over medium high heat.

COOK peppers and onions in skillet for 3 to 4 minutes until just browning and tender crisp.

REMOVE from skillet and set aside. In the same skillet add one more tbsp of ghee.

COOK chicken 6 to 7 minutes or until browned and an internal temperature of 165 degrees is reached.

REMOVE from skillet and allow to cool slightly. Once chicken is cool, roughly chop.

ASSEMBLE sandwiches by dividing mozzarella onto bottom slice of bread followed by chicken, vegetables and cheddar.

TOP with remaining slices of bread.

MELT remaining ghee in skillet and working in batches fry sandwiches 2 to 3 minutes per side or until cheese has melted and sandwich is warmed through.

SERVE immediately with spicy ketchup.
